Research planning

A taster of some of the research areas that went into the film. . .

Tamsin
"My research was around the female voice extended from the female MC’s that inspired me in Grime music. I took my research back from this point to looking at Angela Davis, who was a female activist and public speaker and even Malcolm X & Gil Scott Heron. I looked at the delivery, content and political message that some of these influential people gave to audiences."

Bradley
"I'm exploring links and parallels with dancehall and other genres:
- Strong dancehall scene – originally looked at negatively, just like punk music (rebellious British youth, unhappy/angry)
- exploring language – much youths slang originates from Jamaican Patois

Jungle, Drum n Bass, Garage and Grime today:
- Fast music, fast MCing, often less melodic
- Jungle raves, a lot of original Grime MCs cam out of Jungle scene
- Made transitions with ’21 seconds’ and ‘Oi’
- Grime started with minimalist sound, like the above genres. Also electro sound. – Wiley example"

The project has been made possible by a generous £25,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, a lot of hard work and the support of talented and committed people who were inspired to get involved in the project.

A big thank you to you all!
